Neither Confirmed nor Denied: MFA 2015
April 2 – May 10, 2015
This series offers a glance into the intersection of cultural memory, the transformation of identity and time; re-contextualizing time as an assassination and influx of the past, present and future. It builds upon historical gaps to utilize Afrocentric literature, matriarchal linage, and family photographs as a rabbit hole into the subconscious that informs our understanding of American society. These mixed media collages incorporate: digital inkjet photographs, appropriated writings, drawings and silkscreen on wood. The praxis into the perfectly imperfect/messy notions of time has lead to the use of these materials; invoking memory and the potential for transformed identity.
“… [The] encounter with our already known –although unacknowledged—selves that summons a ripple of alarm.” – Toni Morrison
