Artist Statement


Roger De Muth is an award winning Designer, Illustrator, Photographer and Gardener. His work has won Merit Awards from the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, The American Institute of Graphic Arts, & has been seen in The New York Times, American Illustration, Nobrow Magazine in London, and the Design Journal, published in Seoul, Korea. Roger’s photograph of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain was awarded Best of Show/ and the Fuji Award at the International
Association of Panoramic Photographers Exhibition.

For over 40 years, Roger has been honored to work with major companies throughout the United States and Europe, including the Cartoon Network, Crackerjack, Masterpieces Puzzles, Smokey the Bear, Xerox, Silver Burnett and Ginn, Consolidated Edison, WGBH Boston, Kodak, Xerox, Big Blue Dot, Disney, C.R. Gibson, American Greetings, Schultz & Friends Advertising, Niagara Mohawk , Walter Bernard-Milton Glaser Inc., Warner Brothers, The Advertising Council of America, The Syracuse International Film Festival, and many more.

Roger’s work- “It’s so quiet” was selected for the December 2014 issue of Creative Quarterly Magazine, and Nobrow Magazine January 2014 in London, England. Roger’s letterpress, limited edition Print- “The Artist’s Proof” was recently added to the permanent collection at SU/Art Collections. The signed and numbered print was designed to raise funds for the Syracuse University Collections.

Roger’s children’s books- “Messy Bessie, Where’s my Homework”, “Please Don’t Eat Me”, and
“ Dinner for Eight”, have won awards from The Philadelphia Sketch Club, Publisher’s Weekly, and An
Oppenheim Toy Book Award.

The Gardens surrounding the De Muth home in Cazenovia, NY were part of the National Garden Conservancy “Open Day’s Program”, and received the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation Landscape Award two times. The Gardens were featured in CNY Magazine August 2014 issue, and in Garden Design Magazine Online in August 2014. Groups touring the gardens in 2014 included the Norwich Garden Club, and the Adirondack Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society. Roger has been asked to speak with the Men’s Garden Club Syracuse, NY in April 2015.

Roger’s watercolors have recently been included in the 2013, 2014 Society of Illustrators 55th & 56th International Exhibitions in New York City, The 2014 Schweinfurth Art Center “Made in New York Exhibition, Auburn, NY, and selected to receive the 2013 Finer Family Award, in The 32nd Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors. Roger was Artist in Residence May 2014 at the Century House on Nantucket Island. Roger’s painting of the “Allwyn Court Building” was selected for the Society of Illustrator’s NY 2014-2015 Traveling Collection and appeared in Siloam Springs, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Towson, Maryland.

Roger’s watercolors will be part of the 2014 Philadelphia Water Color Society exhibition, The 2014 Pennsylvania Water Color Exhibition, and he has been selected as a Finalist in the December 2014 issue of Artist’s Magazine. In August 2014 Roger lectured to a packed audience at the 33rd Annual.
