The SUArt Galleries is pleased to present From the Studio to the Salon: Selections from The Dahesh Museum of Art and the Collections of Syracuse University, opening November 9, 2010 and on view until January 9, 2011.  The exhibition will present over 40 drawings on loan from The Dahesh Museum of Art, as well as selected Academic paintings drawn from the Syracuse University Art Collection.

From the Studio to the Salon provides a unique opportunity to trace the path of the artist’s hand from the student’s sketchbook to the master’s finished work. Step into the art world of the 19th-century, a time when vigorous academic training led many artists to the prestige of Salon exhibitions, the exploration of Europe, and the exotic subjects of Orientalism.

In collaboration with The Dahesh Museum of Art and the Syracuse University Art Galleries, the students enrolled in the Advanced Curatorship course in the Graduate Program in Museum Studies have worked together to present a drawing exhibition that highlights some of the prominent themes and techniques of 19th-century Academic Art.
