Instructional Associates

Instructional Associate positions are available each academic year.  Associates are assigned to a staff member/department but overlap in responsibilities with a variety of museum specialty areas.  Currently, the positions focus on collections management, digital archiving, and preparation. Process is highly selective and preference is given to Graduate Students in Museum Studies, Art History and Studio Arts. Each position requires 20 hours per week.

REGISTRATION ASSISTANT

The Syracuse University Art Galleries seeks a self-motivated, organized and disciplined individual to be a Registration/ Collections Assistant. This individual will assist the Registrar with collection management projects including accessioning incoming objects, condition reports for incoming/outgoing exhibitions, and collection inventory. This position requires a working knowledge of collection and accessioning practices, general art handling knowledge, and experience working with a variety of media in regards to capturing documentation and completing condition reports.  Completion of Museum Studies Course 607 (Collections Management) is preferred.

This position is 20/hours per week, and would have a start date on/around August 15, 2019.

COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT

The Syracuse University Art Galleries seeks a self-motivated, organized and disciplined individual to assist the Exhibition and Collection Manager with a variety of collection-based projects.  The main projects will revolve around the active Campus Loan program, assisting in the installation and inventory of over 1000 works installed in campus offices and buildings; and aiding in the Traveling Exhibitions Program, focusing on matting and framing of artwork, completing incoming and outgoing condition reports, and packing crates.

This position requires a working knowledge of collection and accessioning practices, general art handling and framing knowledge, and experience completing condition reports.  Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to multi-task a variety of projects are required. Completion of Museum Studies course 607 (Collections Management) and MUS 601 Museum Preparation & Installation, or equivalent experience, is a plus.

This position is 20/hours per week, and would have a start date on/around August 15, 2019.

COLLECTIONS ASSISTANT

The Syracuse University Art Galleries seeks a self-motivated, organized and disciplined individual to assist the Preparator with a variety of collection-based projects. This includes assisting with the installation of museum collections, exhibits, and special projects for the SUArt Galleries at the Shaffer Art Building and occasionally at the  Palitz Gallery at Lubin House in New York City. They will also assist with the Campus Loan Program staging and installing art in University buildings, and preparing works (mat, frame and pack) for the Traveling Exhibition Program. Painting, drywall repair and other carpentry skills are preferred.

This position requires a working knowledge of collection practices, general art handling and framing knowledge, and experience completing condition reports.  Completion of Museum Studies course 607 (Collections Management) and MUS 601 Museum Preparation & Installation, or equivalent experience, is a plus.

This position is 20/hours per week, and would have a start date on/around August 15, 2019.
